Prenatal & Postpartum Counselling Therapy

The perinatal period, which includes pregnancy and postpartum, is an enormously transitional time. It not only pushes you to discover your new role as a parent but also includes big changes in your body, relationships, and way of life. Many women experience feelings of anxiety and fear around pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and becoming a parent.

The postpartum period brings with it new stressors including a lack of sleep, recovery from birth, and adjustment to caring for an infant. In addition, many women find that this period brings with it strong feelings of anxiety, depression, guilt, and anger.

Depending on your needs, perinatal counselling may include emotional support and coping tools, birth counselling and preparation, healing from birth, or holistic healing support.

Perinatal Counselling:

o   Emotional support & Coping Tools: Together we will explore and process mental and emotional challenges during pregnancy and postpartum, including feelings of stress, overwhelm, sadness, anger, isolation, shame and guilt. There are a wide variety of tools and skills to discover for managing stress, feeling more connected to yourself, your partner, and your baby, and feeling more comfortable in your new role as a parent.

o   Birth Counselling: We will explore feelings of fear and anxiety around pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and becoming a parent and help you to develop the skills you need to feel grounded, safe, and calm during the birth process.

o   Birth Healing: I will use a combination of counselling, somatic therapy, and energy healing to help you process your birth and move through and release feelings of fear and overwhelm that might be remaining. By working through the challenging parts of your birth, we create space for exploring and integrating your birth story in a cohesive and meaningful way.

o   Reiki and energy healing: I also use reiki and energy healing to create a deep state of relaxation, to provide holistic healing support for pregnancy symptoms including nausea, back pain, exhaustion, blood pressure issues, breech position, insomnia, and to help the body to access its natural ability to heal following birth.
